INFORMATION OF FOREIGN CITIZENS' TRAINING DEPARTMENT
The collapse of the USSR and Ukraine's independence in 1991 led to a radical change in the priorities of the higher education system in terms of expanding ties with foreign partners and training highly skilled medical professionals for foreign countries.
The training of foreign citizens at Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University has been conducted since 1992. At that time, students from Russia, Romania, Pakistan and Cameroon studied at the university. For ten years, the total number of foreign students annually was about twenty. This was due to objective reasons: in the days of the Soviet Union, Ivano-Frankivsk region was closed to free visits by foreign citizens, and Ukraine, as a young independent state, was not known on the world market of education services. Thanks to the efforts of the university authorities the number of foreign students has progressively increased since 2002, and in 2010 it was about 857 foreign citizens, and in 2018 – 1423 foreign students.
Today, students from 46 countries of the world study at Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University, namely: Azerbaijan, Algeria, Bulgaria, Botswana, Great Britain, Gabon, Ghana, Greece, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, Zambia, Zimbabwe, India, Iraq, Iran, Spain, Jordan, Cameroon, Canada, Kenya, Congo, Lesotho, Liberia, Lebanon, Libya, Maldives, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Germany, Pakistan, Palestine, Poland, Russian Federation, Rwanda, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Singapore, the USA, Sierra Leone, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Hungary, and Uzbekistan.
A preparatory department with a licensed number of 300 people was opened in 2003, where training was provided with two profiles: medical-biological and engineering.
Foreign citizens at Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University undergo three stages of studying: pre-university training (language and fundamental disciplines), pre-graduate education in major specialties (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy) and postgraduate education (MD, clinical residency, PhD). After completing their studies, IFNMU students receive a diploma of an international model.
Taking into account the European integration processes that take place in Ukraine, including education as well, English has been the language of studying at Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University since 2004.
An important element of the educational process is cultural leisure. The University's rector has created proper conditions for doing sports (annual football championships) and artistic amateur clubs.
Modern classrooms and laboratories, library, computer classes with Internet access, gymnastics and sports halls, swimming pool, leisure center, recreation centers in the Carpathians and on the Black Sea Coast are provided to foreign students. They are guaranteed all rights and freedoms in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine and the University Statute.
The Faculty of Foreign Students Training was founded on May 18, 2005 on the basis of Ivano-Frankivsk State Medical University. The first Head of the Department was Sergiy Valeriyovych Fedorov, Associate Professor of the Therapy and Family Medicine of the Faculty of Postgraduate Education. Since April, 2012 Solomchak Dmytro Bogdanovch, Associate professor of the Department of Urology has been the dean of the faculty of foreign citizens' training.
